Let's just say that when you don't notice us we're working the hardest!
This job was one of those. From start to finish, the idea was simple yet, the execution was a time consuming, and mind bending process.
A change that would normally take a matter of seconds took half an hour and a review which would normally take 30 minutes, took 4 hours!
In pre-production we sat researching the merits of locked off frames, panning in shot, tracking through shot, do we go left to right in camera, or right to left? Where do we want to meet the action and where do we want the actions to meet each other.. To say i had it all figured out in my head before the crew stepped onto shoot would be a lie. But, Robin definitely did! And it can be seen in the finished product.
There was a lot of pushing and pulling in the cut with more Picture in Picture effects on any individual shot than i imagined possible. We manipulated the wipes by trimming and animating matte's on both left and right sides of each frame as well as re-timed the speeds certain shots arrive on screen as opposed to when they leave screen. The scale, speed and positioning of the transitions were the make or break, and keeping the audiences eye center screen was the lesson learnt and the end goal at all times!
I could go on forever about the lessons learnt in the process. However, one lesson i am grateful i learnt before this process was keeping your project clean and ordered!
The look and feel the Craig brought to the job really helped pull Robin's vision together and Udesh did an amazing job of translating the offline decisions into an online world. In fact a ridiculously good job!
And in the end. Well you be the judge of that. I for one am really stoked with the outcome.
