Emotion in Shot.
That was the exercise. That was the aim. To find the simplest shot and movement in shot to ignite the correct emotional reaction in the audience at each point in the story.
It sounds simple, but it's time consuming to get this right.
The idea offollowing someone on their journey towards their goal is a pretty straight forward idea. How you get there in the end and how you reveal, guide and lead your audience emotionally through that journey on screen is never as straight forward.
Gregg & Jamie did a great job to move through the day with an acute sense of what they were after in each scene.
And what we ended up with is the result of years and years of solid training and discipline set free with just enough flare for magic to unfold before the lens.
Through a series of match edits and choreographed moves, some crafted and discovered in camera and some manipulated in post, this story found a stream within which to flow.
I love the way the narrative and visuals interweave and wash over you, It's a good sign that the emotion and mood of the shots, the cut and ultimately the story is right. Unfortunately however, it's not always this smooth, so it is nice when it works.
As always it was great to take the days and hours to sift through the rushes and see what nuggets of pure gold held their own in the end.
Here's to many more magic moments realised through collaboration!
